An important part of a vehicle's suspension system, the control arm is a bar that is used to attach the suspension members to the vehicle's chassis. With the help of the pivots located at each end of the control arm, the part is capable of managing the motion of the wheels in order to ensure they remain in time with the body of the vehicle. 

Due to the nature of the part, every vehicle has several upper and lower control arms. In addition, because this part must endure continual movement, control arm bushings are put in place in order to reduce the amount of friction produced while also preventing the various vehicle parts from moving in multiple directions. The control arm bushing consists of a durable rubber bushing, which is located inside of a metal sleeve. Attached to both ends of the control arm, the control arm bushing is used to attach the control arm to the vehicle's frame. 

 In most cases, the upper control arm bushings can be easily inspected for wear and tear by simply looking into the front wheel wells or by lifting the hood and looking down each side of the engine into the wheel well. Lower control arm bushings, on the other hand, are generally located between the side of the car frame and the end of the control arm. Nonetheless, regular inspection to check for dry rot and cracks is an important part of any vehicle maintenance plan.
